How billing works
1 · Pick a plan
Free or Premium. Free is a real plan with the whole editor in it; Premium is $49 per seat per year and lifts the saved-score limit to unlimited.
2 · AI features run on credits
Premium includes 200 credits every month. Free includes none. Everything else — composing, playback, printing, MusicXML import and export, and the structural Proofread checks — costs no credits on either plan.
3 · Add credits when you need them
Two ways, and neither of them is a plan: a Cloud Pass subscription from $4.99 a month, or a one-time credit pack. Both sections are below — you never need Premium to use an AI feature, only credits. Credits do not expire.
What is a seat? One person with their own login, sharing your account’s score library — every active member sees and edits the same scores. One person, literally: a seat is signed in on one browser at a time, so signing in somewhere else signs you out here — your work is saved and you carry on where you left off, but two people cannot share one seat. Open as many tabs as you like; those are one browser. Seats are what Premium is priced by: you choose how many at checkout and can add more at any time. You cannot set the count below the number of people currently active in your account, and a reduction takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for.

- Is it really free?
- Yes. The free plan is a real plan, not a trial — no credit card, no time limit, and no crippled editor: every notation feature is there, and MusicXML import and export are free on every plan, so your work is never locked in. The free plan holds up to 10 saved scores. Premium lifts that to unlimited, is priced per seat, and includes 200 AI credits every month.
- What happens when I reach 10 scores?
- Nothing breaks and nothing is deleted. You keep full access to everything you have already written — you just cannot create an eleventh score until you move to Premium or delete one. You can export any score to MusicXML first, so archiving one to your own computer is always an option. A Cloud Pass or a credit pack buys AI credits, not saved scores, so neither changes this limit.

- Do I need Premium to use the AI features?
- No. The AI features are gated on credits, not on your plan — nothing is locked behind Premium. Premium is simply the plan that includes credits every month. On the free plan you can add a Cloud Pass or buy a one-time credit pack and use scanning, review, Score Chat and the AI proofread pass exactly as a Premium member does.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. StaffWeaver runs entirely in your browser — no downloads, no plugins, no desktop app.
- What devices are supported?
- Tablets and larger, in any modern browser: iPad, Android tablets, Chromebooks, laptops, and desktops — with a touch-first editor, so a tablet is a first-class way to write music. Phones are not supported for editing, because a phone screen cannot show enough of a system of music to edit it reliably; you can still browse StaffWeaver, sign in, and manage your account and billing from one.
- What are AI credits, and what do they pay for?
- Credits meter the AI features: scanning printed sheet music into an editable score costs 100 credits per page, an AI review pass on a scanned page costs 25 credits, an AI proofread pass over one score costs 100 credits, and each AI Score Chat message costs 15 credits. Everyday editing — composing, importing and exporting MusicXML, playback, printing — never costs credits, and neither do the Proofread panel’s structural checks.
- Do credits expire?
- No. Your balance is one running total, and nothing on it is use-it-or-lose-it: a month you barely scan leaves its credits sitting there for the month you do. That is true of all three sources — the credits Premium grants each month, the credits a Cloud Pass tops you up with each month, and one-time packs.
- Is MusicXML import or export a paid feature?
- No — neither is. Uploading .xml, .musicxml, or .mxl files is free on every plan, and so is exporting a score as .musicxml or .mxl. Both run entirely in your browser and cost no credits.
